BORREGO SPRINGS, Calif. — It’s the sound. Not thunderous or deep like the gathering storm of a V8, the exhaust from Ford‘s 2018 F-150 Raptor is nevertheless gnarly, throaty — a bit high-pitched, perhaps — but compelling all the same. How could it not be?
This is Ford’s worst, meanest, fastest pickup truck – a falcon in F-150 clothing.
The long-awaited replacement for the off-road icon produced between 2010 and 2014, the new Raptor is finally among us, six inches wider and imbued with enough new bulges, vents, and muscle to let the world know this isn’t a truck for collecting shrubs from Home Depot or hauling some smelly horse trailer. Blacked out headlamps, signature LED lighting, unique bumpers and a higher ground clearance suggest this is a truck designed to beat the crap out of the desert.
