2. Audi A8 saloon
Although large executive saloon cars have fallen out of favor in recent years, the new Audi A8 is an important car for Audi. German carmakers like BMW, Mercedes and Audi use their flagship models to showcase technology that’ll feature across the range in years to come. With this in mind, it’s interesting to note that the 2018 Audi A8 will feature newly developed autonomous driving technology making use of lasers and radar – Audi claims these systems will allow the A8 to be ‘self-driving’ in traffic at speeds up to 38mph – although it’s unclear whether this will be legal on UK roads. Audi generally makes the best car interiors on the market and the fact that the new A8 will feature gesture-controlled heating and infotainment systems gives an indication that this technology is seen as the future by carmakers. The new A8 will be powered by turbocharged petrol and diesel engines, and it’s thought to be 200kg lighter than the car it replaces. Audi is also likely to offer a hybrid version of this A8.
